Have you ever had to put down a manga or an anime because a word was used that you didn’t understand? Did it disrupt your concentration or detract from your enjoyment? Did you intend to check that word up but then forgot because you were too busy? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, we understand; we’ve been there.
We prepared a list of frequently used phrases after extensive research into Otaku culture. These phrases and expressions can be found in anime, manga, video games, and, you guessed it, hentai games and media!
We opted to extensively describe several of the words in a glossary style because they did not have an evident meaning.
Now, both Otaku and non-Otaku may be confident that any ambiguous phrases will be swiftly addressed on our website!

A)
Ahegao – Ahegao is a female’s facial expression of absolute happiness during sex or orgasming. It can be identified by reddened cheeks, rolled back eyes, and a tongue that protrude out far. If you notice these indications, you know you’re pleasing her.
Akuma is a term used to describe a demon or a bad spirit. Akuma are frequently portrayed as having flaming characteristics and the ability to fly. We wish you well if you have seen one, for they are the bearers of terrible news.
Ashikoki – also known as a footjob. Ashikoki is a sexual act in which you give your sexual partner pleasure with your feet. Wearing socks or stockings can be a nice touch.
B)
BDSM is an abbreviation for B/D (Bondage and Discipline), D/s (Dominance and Submission), and S/M (Sadism and Masochism). Other sexual activities and sensuous actions between consenting adults are increasingly included in the BDSM.
Bishoujo is a phrase used to describe a cute and lovely woman. Frequently seen in manga, anime, video games, and commercials. It’s common in dating sims and visual novels. A typical Bishoujo character will have twintails.
Bishounen is the term for a beautiful man with androgynous traits. Bishounen are frequently highly feminine male characters in media who have strong martial arts talents, amazing sporting talent, great intelligence, flamboyant fashion, and a keen sense of humor.
Bondage – Bondage is a major component of the BDSM erotic culture. Bondage is the binding or restraint of a consenting partner for the purpose of erotic arousal. Rope, tape, handcuffs, plastic, and other materials are frequently employed as tools. Bondage is not always about function.
C)
Catgirl is a female character with feline traits, such as cat ears, a cat tail, whiskers, and hair on a human body. Catgirls frequently exhibit cat-like behavior, so don’t be surprised if you see one purring. Catgirls are a popular character archetype in manga and anime, and they may also be found in a variety of hentai games.
Chibi is a term used in Japan to denote a type of caricature. It is also known as super deformation and has characters created in an exaggerated way. These figures are typically shown with big heads and short, pudgy bodies with stubby limbs. This type of art, which is produced with little detail, is commonly encountered in anime and manga. You’ve most likely seen one of these figures on a laptop, cell phone, or the rear of a car.
Cunnilingus – Oral sex on a woman conducted with the lips, mouth, and tongue. Because sexual pleasure is derived from this act, cunnilingus is conducted as foreplay before intercourse or as a sexual act in and of itself, and if executed correctly, can culminate in orgasm.
E)
Ecchi – The term Ecchi has been adopted by western followers of Japanese culture to denote works of anime and manga having sexual undertones. The term “hentai” describes something considerably more explicit and is closer to softcore or playful sexuality with a low level of erotism.
F)
Fan Service is the purposeful addition of material to satisfy anime, manga, and hentai viewers/readers. The gratuitous shower scene or random upskirt panty shot is a frequent kind of fan service. The Gainax Bounce is another name for excessive boob jiggle. Fan service can be present in mainstream culture and can take the form of a simple throwback, a long shot, or an episode-long combat scene. Shipping is also taken into account.
Femdom is a contraction of the phrases female domination/female dominance and is often (but not always) connected with dominatrixes (dominatrices). In types of BDSM, this is when the female assumes the position of master. If you see a woman dressed in black latex and stiletto heels, you are most certainly seeing a femdom title. It is also possible to simply describe content in which a female character is sexually dominating in a relationship with another character.
Futanari – Futanari are hermaphrodites in Japanese. A hermaphrodite is defined as having both male and female reproductive organs. In hentai content, a person with a female appearance who has both male and female primary sexual genitalia is most typically depicted. (For instance, breasts, a penis, and a vagina are all present.)
G)
Gainaxing is a technique for depicting girls with large, frequently enormous breasts (oppai). When the breasts are animated, they bounce, sway, jiggle, and move in ways that defy gravity and science. The breasts will move asynchronously at the same moment, one up and one down or to the side. Because Gainax Studios employed it so extensively, the exaggerated bounce is sometimes referred to as the Gainax Bounce.
In Japanese, gei often refers to a performance, art, craft, or accomplishment. It is also appropriate for the word gay. In English, gei refers to a martial arts uniform.
H)
Hardcore refers to something extreme or intense. Hardcore in hentai content usually refers to the fact that the material is more explicit and involves “less” vanilla acts, such as anal sex or BDSM practices. It is not restricted to sexual descriptions; it can also be tied to someone’s hobby (for example, that person is a die-hard otaku).
Harem – Harem is a popular light novel, visual novel, manga, anime, and hentai genre that is generally comical. In harem stories, the male protagonist is generally surrounded by female characters who are in love with or longing for him. The opposite exists in the form of a “reverse harem,” in which a woman is surrounded by men.
Hentai is a prominent pornographic anime genre. It literally means “depraved” or “abnormal.” Hentai frequently includes highly sexualized characters as well as vivid and explicit sexual content. Hentai games have an anime-like art style that is common in manga and anime.
I)
Idol – anime that focuses on pop groups or characters (typically girls) that constantly sing and dance. Idols are prevalent in many cultures, and they have become a common trope in many anime and hentai works. For example, the light book Oshi No Ko, which follows a popular idol, was recently translated to anime and has shattered all kinds of viewership and rating records!
K)
Kawaii – pronounced k-Hawaii, it refers to anything sweet or adorable. A cuteness culture is also mentioned. When you hear the word, you might think of Hello Kitty. It can also be used to define other aesthetics, such as a certain clothing style.
Kuudere is a cool persona who appears calm and collected and never appears to panic. Kuudere may appear dispassionate, however they may be suppressing their actual feelings behind the surface. They frequently have high IQs and speak in a monotonous manner. In anime, manga, and hentai, this is a common archetype.
L)
‘Lewd’ – ‘Lewd’ It is a word in English that describes a subject, deed, or statement as sexually vulgar. It has evolved slightly in Otaku culture to characterize sensual items such as “lewd” photographs or material. Because of the nature of the behaviors depicted in the anime or manga, this phrase is frequently associated with Ecchi. The phrase is often used to describe characters in hentai games who are mischievous and like sensuality.
Lewdness – refers to two distinct principles. The first is when a beautiful anime/manga character is oversexualized in artwork. This is more common in female characters, but it can also happen in male ones. The character may be depicted in sexier apparel or with different characteristics than they usually have, like as larger breasts. The second is lewdness of an anime or manga scenario in which, instead of what would normally happen, characters (who are not usually together) make out or even have sex.
A light book is a type of YA fiction that is written for readers in high school. These novels are typically around 50,000 words in length. They are primarily made of text, but may include drawings in the manga art style.
M)
Maids are women or men who dress and behave like servants. Maids are a popular fetish in Japan, as well as elsewhere in the world in recent years. Who wouldn’t want to return home and be greeted with “Hello Master” by a lovely woman?
Maid Café is a type of cosplay restaurant where the waiters are costumed as maids. Customers are treated as if they are the masters of a private residence. These establishments pander to the fetish of the master-servant. These magnificent enterprises originate in Japan, but are gradually spreading to other regions of the world.
Manga – Japanese comic novels with black and white illustrations. The name “manga” can refer to both comics and cartooning, and it is a hugely popular and profitable element of the Japanese publishing business, with a global readership.
Mecha is a popular genre of manga and anime that features robots in conflict. Mecha encompasses a wide spectrum of genres, including action-adventure, horror, science fiction, and comedy. Mecha is well-known for providing a type of fan service known as the long shot, which allows viewers to observe and enjoy protracted conflicts with great attention to the robots’ details.
MILF – Milf is an abbreviation for Mother I’d Like to Fuck. It is used to describe attractive older ladies, regardless of whether or not they have children. MILF is a popular porn and hentai category. MILFs are typically stereotyped as having extra-large breasts, being extremely subservient, and obviously craving males.
Moe – a slang term for sentiments of enthusiasm, affection, adoration, and dedication toward characters in anime and manga, as well as video games and other media. Characters who inspire such emotions are frequently referred to as “moe characters.”
Monster Girl – A fictitious depiction of a woman with similar visual attributes to a monster but also human features is referred to as a Monster Girl. Monster Girls were originally portrayed as cruel, ugly, and dishonest women who concealed their terrible features. They are now the objects of desire, just another species with monster characteristics that reward them with some form of superpower they can utilize to aid others. Monster girls are a prevalent motif in anime and manga, and they have been oversexualized in monster erotica and hentai. Catgirls, demon girls, slime ladies, and centaurs are just a few examples of popular otaku characters.
Mosaic Censorship is a type of censorship practiced in Japan. The Supreme Court of Japan heard a case in 1957 that resulted in a new legal interpretation that obliged the majority of Japanese pornography to undergo self-censorship, the principal means of which were digital mosaics placed over genitalia.
N)
Nagadashi is the Japanese word for creampie, which refers to the sexual act of ejaculating inside a woman’s vagina. A well-known porn and hentai performer. It is also regarded as a fetish. This type of scene is sometimes viewed in an X-Ray format.
Netorare (NTR) – the individual who is being cuckolded. NTR occurs when a woman cheats on her significant partner while he or she is aware and treats him or her harshly while doing so. It is also regarded as a fetish.
Netori – a term used to describe someone who is cuckholding another. This individual steals a woman from another man. They can be either male or female.
O)
Onee-chan – Japanese for “big sister.”
In Japan, big brother is referred to as onii-chan.
Oppai is the Japanese word for breasts, boobs, and tits! If you’re an Otaku, you’re probably a fan of oppai.
Otaku is a Japanese term for persons who have common and consuming interests in things such as anime, manga, video games, tabletop games, and/or computers. Similar to the English term fanboy, although more highly regarded within its culture.
OVA/OAV – An abbreviation for Original Video Animation or Original Animated Video. In Japan, these are movies or television shows that were created exclusively for home viewing. OVA/OAV are episodes that can be short or long and originated in the 1980s.
P)
Paizuri is a Japanese name for titfucking or titty fucking, which is commonly used as a sexual foreplay action. Because “Oppai” characters are so popular in hentai, paizuri appears frequently in the media.
Pettanko is the Japanese word for a tiny breast. While Oppai is a well-known idea, there is a sizable otaku community that loves girls with smaller breasts.
S)
Senpai is a Japanese term that is used to recognize upperclassmen, seniors in class, or elders in society. In martial arts, senpai is also used to address those with a higher belt level or greater experience than you.
Shibari is a Japanese bondage style that frequently involves the use of ropes. This type of rope bondage is both a kink and an art form. Tight rope bondage can be used for sex, meditation, or even as a method to establish trust. It is popular because it appeals to a wide range of people.
Shipping is a fandom phrase that refers to when fans root for and place two characters in a love relationship. Normally, shipping results in unofficial creative works such as fanfiction, doushinji, and fan art. Otaku frequently ship their goods.
Shnen-ai is a phrase used to describe anime and manga with a male/male romantic plot. These titles are now commonly referred to as “yaoi.”
Squirting – is a slang term for the act of female ejaculation. It can be represented in hentai as a torrent, waterfall, or eruption-like stream from the vagina. While medical research is skeptical, many people feel this is a genuine effect of sex or masturbation orgasm.
Stockings are a type of tight clothing that covers the leg from the foot to the knee or thigh. Stockings are used to promote sexual attractiveness by making the leg appear longer and thinner. Stockings can be regarded a fetish by the wearer or by those who observe them.
Succubi or Succubus – The name “succubi” refers to a feminine demon who wants intercourse with sleeping men. In anime, manga, and hentai, these female demons frequently entice men into having sex with them, or feed off of or gain strength from intercourse with men. They can promise guys rewards, or the reward can be the sex itself.
T)
Tsundere – these stone-cold folks may appear emotionless on the outside, yet on the inside, they are really loving and affectionate. Many male protagonists in anime and manga have this trait, however it is typically given to waifus who deny any type of kindness from the protagonist but eventually grow to like them. Tsundere are frequently portrayed in Harem anime, games, and hentai.
Twintails – a popular anime and manga hairstyle in which pigtails are worn on both the right and left sides of the head. Also known as twin braids or double pigtails. Often used to describe charming characters.
U)
Uke is a phrase used to describe someone who is at the bottom of a gay relationship.
V)
The term “visual novel” refers to digital interactive fiction. Visual Novels (also known as VN) are a type of choose-your-own-adventure game in which the tale is told on the screen using a narrative paired with static or animation. Because the decisions taken might drive the tale in a variety of directions, several play-throughs will be required to see and feel everything.
W)
Waifu is a Japanese term derived from the English word wife. A Waifu is a female character in anime, manga, or hentai content who is loving and beautiful to the Otaku community.
Y)
Yandere – A Yandere is a person who has a love fixation for someone. They are a Japanese archetype characterized by characters whose love and undivided devotion are so intense that they are portrayed as an extreme and often undesirable fixation that involves possessiveness.
Yaoi is a phrase used to describe male/male love in hentai, anime, and comics. Many doujinshis and hentai games are based on yaoi stories.
Yuri is a phrase used to describe female/female love in hentai, anime, and comics. Yuri stories are frequently cute and include rich plots.
Z)
Zenra – Waifus performing daily things like as cooking or working out while entirely naked. It is a common situation that appears in a number of visual novels.
